Interested in government? Visit the Madrid Congressional office! The Congreso de los Diputados is the lower cabinet of the general courts of Spain, and is located in the Palacio de los Cortes (The Palace of the Courts). At the top of the front steps, are two iconic lion sculptures from the early 1800s as well as a beautiful bronze door that is only opened on very special occasions.
Inside, the Spanish congress holds all of its proceedings and meetings. There is also a large library and conference hall, sometimes called the hall of the lost steps! The building also has a magnificent collection of tapestries and paintings, so if you want to see where the Spanish courts make the big decisions, head over to the Congreso.
You can visit the Congreso at the Plaza de las Cortes. It is open for individual tours on Saturdays from 10:30-12:30. For guided group visits, the congress is open from Mondays-Fridays from 9:00-14:30, and 16:00-18:30. All visits are FREE. To organize a group visit, go to www.congreso.es.
Reminder: Opening hours and admission fees are subject to change, so please always check the official webpage before going.
